Websarb is published by Arbsbuy LLC. This page explains, in plain terms, what we collect, why, who else sees it, and what you can do about it. We have tried to describe what this site actually does rather than list every theoretical possibility, so if something here stops being true we will change it.

The short version

• You do not need an account to read Websarb, and we do not create one for you.
• We ask for your email only if you subscribe, submit an article, contact us, or become a member.
• Articles you save are stored in your own browser and never reach us.
• We do not sell or rent anyone’s personal data, and we do not share our subscriber list.
• We never see your card details.

Who is responsible for your data

The data controller is Arbsbuy LLC, publisher of websarb.com, registered at 7901 4th St N, STE 300, St. Petersburg, FL 33702, USA. You can reach us about anything on this page through the contact page, or by email at privacy@websarb.com, and we will not make you jump through hoops to exercise a right.

What we collect, why, and on what basis

If you subscribe to the newsletter

We store your email address, the dates you signed up and confirmed, and the IP address the sign-up came from. The IP is kept because it is our only way to spot someone signing up other people’s addresses.

Subscribing is double opt-in: we email you a link and nothing happens unless you click it. Your address is stored in our own database on our own server. We do not use a third-party newsletter service, so your address is not passed to one. Every email carries an unsubscribe link and unsubscribing takes effect immediately.

Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

If you submit an article

We store the name, email address, biography and article you send us, plus the IP address of the submission. This is what lets us reply to you, credit you, and identify repeat abuse. If we publish your article, your name, biography and any profile links you gave us appear publicly on the article and on your author page. Your email address is never published.

If we do not publish your article, we keep the submission so we can recognise duplicate or previously rejected material. Ask us and we will delete it.

Legal basis: performance of the arrangement between us as publisher and contributor, and our legitimate interest in preventing abuse.

If you contact us

The contact form stores your name, email address, the subject you chose, your message and your IP address, so that we can reply and so that we can deal with repeated abuse. Messages are stored on our own server.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering people who write to us.

If you become a member

Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details never reach our server and we never see or store them. Stripe tells us your email address, which plan you chose, the amount, and identifiers for your customer and subscription records. We store those so we can recognise you as a member and answer questions about your own payments.

We identify members with a random token in a cookie rather than an account and password, so there is no login to be breached. Stripe processes your payment data as an independent controller under its own privacy policy.

Legal basis: performance of the contract between us, and our legal obligation to keep records of payments received.

If you just read the site

Our server keeps standard access logs: IP address, time, page requested, and your browser’s user-agent string. These are ordinary web server records used to investigate faults and abuse.

We count how many times each article is read. That count is a single number attached to the article. It is not tied to you, and we do not build a profile of what any individual reads.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a site that works and in knowing which articles are read.

Articles you save

The bookmark button stores a list in your own browser’s local storage. That list never leaves your device and we cannot see it. Clearing your browser data deletes it, and it does not follow you to another device, because there is no account behind it.

Cookies and similar storage

We use browser storage for four things: remembering whether you chose light or dark mode, remembering your saved articles, remembering your answer to the cookie notice, and, if you are a member, recognising your membership. None of those track you across other websites.

WordPress sets cookies for people who log in to run the site. If you are only reading, you will not get one.

Advertising. We intend to carry advertising through Google AdSense in future. When we do, Google may set cookies to measure and personalise advertising, acting as an independent controller of that data. We do not switch any of that on before you have agreed through the cookie notice, and choosing “essential only” leaves it off with no loss of access to anything. Members do not see advertising at all. At the time of writing, advertising is not yet live on this site.

Who else receives your information

We do not sell personal data and we do not share our subscriber list. Information reaches other parties only where it is unavoidable to run the site:

• Our hosting provider, which necessarily handles anything sent to the site.
• Our email provider, which delivers confirmation and notification messages.
• Stripe, which processes membership payments and holds the card details we never see.
• OpenAI. Submitted article text and titles are sent to its API to be assessed for quality and spam. Your name, email address and IP address are not sent. OpenAI does not use API data to train its models.
• Copyleaks, if and when plagiarism checking is enabled: submitted article text is sent to be compared against published sources on the web. Again, article text only, not your contact details.
• Google, if and when advertising is enabled and you have consented.
• Anyone we are legally required to disclose to, which we would resist where we reasonably could.

Where your data goes

Our servers are in the United States, and the providers listed above are largely US-based. If you are in the UK, the EU, or another region with data-transfer rules, that means your information is transferred outside your home jurisdiction. We rely on the standard contractual protections those providers offer for such transfers.

How long we keep things

• Subscriber records: until you unsubscribe, then a minimal record for a short period so we do not email you again by accident.
• Submissions: for as long as the article is published, or until you ask us to delete an unpublished one.
• Contact messages: up to two years, so we can see the history of a conversation.
• Membership records: for as long as the membership is active, and afterwards for as long as tax and accounting rules require records of payments.
• Server logs: a matter of weeks.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict what we do with it, receive a copy in a portable form, object to our processing, or stop emailing you. If you are in the UK, the EU, or another region with comparable law, those are legal rights and we will honour them regardless of where you happen to be.

You do not need to give a reason to unsubscribe, and we will not ask for one. Ask through the contact page and we will respond as quickly as we reasonably can, and within one month.

If you are in the UK or EU and think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to your national data protection authority. We would rather you told us first so we can put it right, but that is your right and not conditional on speaking to us.

If you are in California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we have never done so.

Children

Websarb is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe we have, tell us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, runs isolated from the other sites on its server, keeps API credentials encrypted rather than in plain text, and is backed up nightly. No system is perfect; if we ever discover a breach affecting personal data, we will tell the people affected and the relevant authority rather than keep quiet about it.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change is significant, such as advertising going live or a new provider receiving data, we will say so on the site rather than rely on you re-reading this page.
